Coworking in Crown Heights, Brooklyn
Crown Heights has become one of the most active neighborhoods in Brooklyn for independent professionals: tree-lined parkways, easy access to Manhattan via the 2, 3, 4, 5, and C trains, and a flourishing local economy of cafes, restaurants, and small businesses. Work Heights has been part of that growth from early on. MACHINE, our Dean Street location, opened in 2014 in a building that had previously served as an auto parts store and junkyard, and earlier still as a 1940s dancehall. To build the backyard garden, our founder personally carted out 140 cubic yards of trash and planted three oak trees. Those trees are now mature, and they shade members through warm-weather workdays in the garden. Work Heights operates two coworking locations in Crown Heights: ELECTRIC at 650 Franklin Avenue and MACHINE at 1037 Dean Street. Both were built specifically for the people who get lost at bigger, corporate coworking spaces: individuals, freelancers, and small teams who want a workspace that actually works for how they work.
About Work Heights ELECTRIC and MACHINE
ELECTRIC at 650 Franklin Avenue is our Franklin Avenue location, offering 24/7 access, dedicated desks, hot desks, conference rooms, a kitchen, lockers, free black-and-white printing, and dog-friendly access. It sits within a short walk of the Franklin Avenue 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains and the Franklin Avenue Shuttle. ELECTRIC has been serving Crown Heights members since 2015. MACHINE at 1037 Dean Street is our Dean Street location and the original Work Heights, offering 24/7 access, dedicated desks, hot desks, conference rooms, a podcast booth, a backyard with the three oak trees mentioned above, a kitchen, lockers, free black-and-white printing, and dog-friendly access. It sits between the Franklin Avenue and Nostrand Avenue subway corridors. MACHINE has been serving Crown Heights members since 2014. Both locations serve freelancers, remote workers, and small teams across Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Bedford-Stuyvesant, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens. Members get full access to all seven Work Heights locations across Brooklyn on a single membership.
What makes Work Heights different
Brooklyn has plenty of coworking options, including large corporate operators like WeWork, Industrious, and Mindspace. Those spaces are built primarily around larger company contracts. They work well for teams of twenty or fifty, but solopreneurs, freelancers, and small teams of two or three often get lost in the mix. Work Heights is different. We're an independently owned coworking company, founded in Brooklyn and serving Brooklyn members for over a decade. We specialize in individuals and small teams, and we built our spaces, amenities, and community around the people who often feel like an afterthought elsewhere. That focus shapes everything: how the spaces feel, who you sit next to, how the community runs, and what the day-to-day experience is actually like. For people who want a workspace that feels personal, neighborhood-rooted, and genuinely designed for how solo practitioners and small teams work, the difference is immediate.
Who Crown Heights coworking suits
Crown Heights draws independent professionals from across creative, tech, and consulting fields. ELECTRIC and MACHINE are built for exactly that: Freelancers and consultants who want a quiet, focus-first workspace within walking distance of home. Remote workers based in Crown Heights or nearby who'd rather walk than commute. Podcasters and audio creators who can use the dedicated booth at MACHINE. Founders and small teams in early stages, before they're ready for a dedicated office. People who appreciate working in a garden under three oak trees the founder planted by hand. People with dogs who want a workspace where their dog is welcome.
